Letter to Wake Foresters affected by Hurricane Katrina

Dear Wake Foresters Affected by Hurricane Katrina:

Julie and I are deeply saddened by the severe destruction recently visited upon the Gulf Coast region by Hurricane Katrina. In the face of such disaster, it gives us assurance in the human spirit to see that nature’s devastating forces are being met with equally intense acts of heroism to help those in need. The fabric of community and goodwill demonstrated during these difficult days is inspiring.

We hope that you and your loved ones have been spared from danger. Even as newcomers to the University, Julie and I have been impressed by the strong weave of community fabric at Wake Forest, particularly now in the face of this tragedy. Rev. Tim Auman, the University Chaplain, is currently organizing our volunteer efforts in coordination with the local chapter of the Red Cross, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, campus student leaders, faculty, and staff. If there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to contact us. We want to stay in touch.
