Hatch announces administrative changes

Letter to the Wake Forest community announcing new roles for Sandra Boyette and James Bullock

To the Wake Forest Community:

Earlier this year, Sandra Boyette informed me of her desire to step down as Vice President for University Advancement at the conclusion of our current capital campaign. As you know, Sandra has served the University for twenty-five years in various development, marketing and public relations roles, including the creation of the University’s first Public Affairs Office; the securing and coordination of two Presidential Debates; establishment of a University-wide integrated marketing effort; and leadership of the Advancement staff for a decade during which the Reynolda Campus generated more than $451 million in charitable gifts.

We discussed the increasing demands and complexity of the fundraising and public relations needs of the University; and I am pleased to report that Sandra has agreed to remain as Senior Advisor to the President after June 30, 2006. In this position, she will continue to supervise the Public Affairs division of the University Advancement Office; lead the University’s Integrated Marketing Committee; coordinate special projects of the President’s Office; and serve as a member of the Reynolda Cabinet and Executive Council.

I am also pleased to announce the appointment of James R. Bullock as Vice President for University Advancement, effective July 1, 2006.

A 1985 alumnus of the College and a 1995 graduate of the Babcock School, James first worked for the University as a student intern in the University Relations Office. Subsequently, he was Director of Capital Support in the Heritage and Promise Campaign. Following the Campaign, he served as Associate Director of Development for Law and Management. In 1996, he was named Assistant Vice President for University Advancement; and in 1997, he was appointed director of Honoring the Promise: The Campaign for Wake Forest. In this position, James led the ambitious and successful effort to meet the University’s largest fundraising goal in its history. In addition, he serves on the Boards of CASE District III, !dealliance, the Center of Congregational Health, a non-profit organization affiliated with North Carolina Baptist Hospital; and is an elder at Highland Presbyterian Church. He has established many important relationships that have and will benefit Wake Forest, and I am confident that James and his colleagues will generate new and expanded support for our mission.

We are studying the post-campaign structure of the University Advancement Office to ensure that our efforts are appropriately organized to move forward, and I will share more information with you as we progress.

As these changes take place, I look forward to working with you and our University Advancement Office to generate even broader and deeper fiscal support and goodwill for the faculty and students of this remarkable university.
