Message to the Wake Forest community about Jill Tiefenthaler

This afternoon, the trustees of Colorado College in Colorado Springs named Jill Tiefenthaler as their thirteenth president. When she departs Wake Forest in June, she will leave a wonderful legacy of leadership and the foundation for Wake Forest’s future success.

Jill has served as provost and professor of economics here since 2007.

During this time, she has brought unsurpassed commitment to her work and has focused on stewarding the resource of our outstanding faculty and students.

Her creative spirit and dynamic nature have been a source of energy throughout the campus, particularly in the areas of strategic planning and student life.

This moment provides new opportunities for us. In our search for a new provost, which will begin immediately, we will have the chance to build on the successes we have achieved together during Jill’s tenure and to realize even more fully Wake Forest’s highest goals for the education of the whole person, academic excellence and a vibrant campus community for our students.

With a mix of sadness and excitement, and a healthy dose of pride, I wish Jill, Kevin and their children the very best as she takes up a new set of challenges and opportunities at Colorado College. I hope Jill will continue to think of herself as a Demon Deacon.

I am sure you join me in celebrating the success of a deeply respected colleague and friend — and the bright future of both institutions.

Sincerely,

Nathan O. Hatch
President
