Welcome Back Letter
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
Welcome to the Fall 2016 semester at Wake Forest! Some of you are returning from months abroad, others are coming from eye-opening internships, several have been refreshed by time with friends and family, and many are just starting their college experience. As we welcome new faces and reunite with familiar ones, I look forward to what we will do together as a campus community this semester.
At Wake Forest, we are surrounded by opportunity. It is up to each one of us to decide if we will take advantage of it or let it pass by, if we will respond to it with enthusiasm or indifference. It is up to each one of us how we will allow it to shape us.
In our approach to work, we champion the exploration of ideas, celebrate the depths of curiosity and relish the pursuit of excellence. So ask questions – of professors, colleagues, friends and strangers. Meet new people; share your thoughts; consider others’ perspectives.
And just as we share knowledge and chase after ideas in the classroom, let us apply that same interest to one another. Engage in hard conversations with kindness and respect. Laugh and find enjoyment in the company of friends and neighbors. Learn life lessons from voices with experience.
At the beginning of this semester, let me draw your attention to a few events and opportunities that might be of interest.
Undoubtedly, there are many more opportunities on the calendar, in your classes and in your many conversations. I hope you will take advantage of what might be natural for you, and what might challenge you in new ways.
I’m looking forward to a great semester. Welcome back!
